Beautiful Things
Sometimes, on rainy days, beautiful words and music can be like the umbrella, cozy fireplace, or rain boots we need.
Hello, dear reader! In trying times, I like to think of the beauty in the world that God created humans to be able to create. Sometimes, on rainy days, beautiful words and music can be like the umbrella, cozy fireplace, or rain boots we need.
There are many beautiful things, but today I am sharing a few songs and poems, and one quote.
10 Songs:
Lately, I have been putting pure piano songs at the ends of my yoga playlists so my students can relax with the music into Savasana (corpse pose). Spotify takes note and feeds me more and more of these types of songs. Here are ten that I find absolutely lovely, including classical and contemporary pieces.
“Reverie” by Claude Debussey
“6 Impromptus, Op. 5: Impromptu VI” by Jean Sibelius
“Orfeo ed Euridice, Wq. 30” by Christopher Willard Gluck
“Gnossienne No. 1” by Erik Satie
“Consolations, S. 172: No. 3, Lento placido” by Franz Liszt
“Nils has a new piano” by Nils Frahm
“Rue des trois freres” by Fabrizio Paterlini
“Flowing” by Borrtex
“Take Me Away” by Austin Farwell
“Idea 10” by Gibran Alocer
11 Poems:
To me, poetry is magical partly because of how much it can pack a punch in fewer words. Lineation (the way lines are organized), punctuation, repetition, alliteration, rhyme and slant rhyme are some ways poets play with language to make it sound beautiful in our ears; to make language tinkle like wind chimes or coalesce into a satisfying harmony.
I love how good poems reward close reading. Most of the time, I don’t get much out of one or two or even three reads. The poems that stick with me are often the ones that not only caught my eye right away, but that I’ve studied and spent time with — the ones I’ve come back to again and again.
This collection of classical to contemporary poems are ones I love for various reasons.
Lastly, a quote:
Did any of these speak to you? Or are there other pieces of music or words that you love? I would absolutely love it if you’d share a poem or song with me <3
