Cornucopia
A new poem on this Thanksgiving day
Dear Reader,
First of all, Happy Thanksgiving.
During the last month, (the reason I’ve been kinda MIA on Substack), we traveled to New York and Lithuania to visit good friends, spent lots of time with people we love, and busied ourselves watching in awe as Maya grows. And my cup is overflowing with gratitude and appreciation, especially for the people in my life who love me, who I get to love. I feel blessed beyond measure.
As far as writing goes, I’ve been working on editing my novel more than on poems. There’s a lot that needs to be done with that book, so I do a little bit every day.
But poems always comes back to me. And as I go to write more poetry, I’ve found that I’m repeatedly drawn to exploring two particular themes: impermanence and motherhood.
On this Thanksgiving day, I have a poem for you. The poem I’m sharing is not the one that I’ve been contemplating and trying to write for the whole last month. It’s the one that came to me a couple nights ago. And probably that shows, because I haven’t revised it as much as I normally would most other poems. But it’s definitely representative of how I feel and what I’m continually learning.
Thank you for reading!! I am grateful for you!
Love,
Alessia
